”Lights in Alingsås 2006”

Living room – room for life - a composition comfortable for long term viewing.

Every year leading lighting designers from all over the world visit Alingsås. Each of them has selected a public environment in Alingsås in advance and has accepted the assignment to create exciting lighting with the help of students participating in workshops.

The theme of this years ”Lights in Alingsås” was “Interfacing with the Community” and Olsson & Linder worked with the housing estate “Östlyckan”. The housing estate was different in that matter that people actually were living in this place, at our site, and of course this was crucial for the concept. The court yard was neither private nor public. It was active in daytime and resting at night.

We had a large group (14 students) in this years “Lights in Alingsås” with a wide range of age, background, skills and nationality. From 19 years of age to approximately 50 years of age. Many of the group members came from studies at KTH and had a various background such as; architect, landscape architects, industrial designer, gardener, electrician and lighting designer. Most of the participants in our group came from Sweden but there where also people from; Malaysia, Iran, Romania, Japan, Portugal and Mexico.

We decided that we would like to create a Living room – room for life with the ambition to make a composition comfortable for long term viewing. The group also agreed on the importance to create a lighting design that should be so attractive that the inhabitants wanted to keep it.
